@canadian-varieties, was the 1906 purchase about 4-5 years ago? 8f yes, I think I was bidding on that lot, but chickened out around $400. Nice work, fortune favors the bold.

Thanks purelywasted....yes, it was about 4-5 years ago now and must have been that lot. In all honesty, I was nervous the entire time until I had the coin in hand. Fortunately it worked out for me but these kinds of situations dont always work out. I have not cherry picked a 1906 25c Small Crown since. Here it is in PCGS slab. The Belzberg MS62 cherry pick is the PCGS finest, my PCGS F12 is 5th finest. The VG10 on PCGS website (6th finest) was mine as well but I paid full price for that one before my upgrade to the F12. These are so unbelievably rare above VG8. https://www.PCGS.com/cert/32251104

well my first 3 best finds on ebay are these 1864 nb e/f's paid $6 for one and $7 for the other kept the best for myself and sold the other for $1100 these next 2 are 1882 triple die I paid $20 for and this 1882 DDO I think I paid $9 , dont really kow the value as I have not sold them although I think I might have the finest known DDO. and the next item isn't coin related but since we are on this subject went to a garage sale last week and bought a box of stamps for $20 thinking there might be a couple hundred in usable postage, wasnt till I got home and discovered a bunch of file folders at the bottom of the box full of mint sheets blocks booklets and souviner sheets, been adding it up all week and I am now at $7000.86 face value , plus alot of mint czech stamps. i can sell canadian stamps for 75% face on ebay also the souviner sheets generally go for more than face, I still need to check for any varieties I estimate close to $10 000 by the time I'm done and this is my best find ever!

Too many to mention and who'd believe me anyway? 1893 Round Top ten cents for ten dollars. 1947 curved right maple leaf fifty cents for less than $50. 1884 C-1 large cent AU for twenty dollars. And more, lots more. The secret? Buy It Now. New listings...

In the early 2000's, most sellers on ebay were collectors selling their extras. Most coins were raw and you could find great bargains. I managed to make this retirement stash, which grew better than the stock market. The bottom left is from a lot of 30 Vic. 5 cents for $150 (all Cdn $'s). Saw that one but not the bottom right one, which was in a larger lot of mixed reigns for $3-4 ea. I would add to or improve my collection and resell most of the others, so both were free, and I made a profit. By good luck, I got all three types of 8's. The others were 2 at about $34 each, 2 at $45 each, $82 and $92. (p.s.- they're all the large date variety)

I can't remember the best deal, but one of my latest "happy" deals (Oct. 3, 2023) was winning an auction ($51.55) for a 2017 Canada Special Edition Proof Silver Dollar - Our Home and Native Land. These are usually listed for $90.00 and up.

Not sure if this would qualify as a best deal. A few years ago I bought a 2009 commemorative silver dollar, Abraham Lincoln, on ebay. It arrived with a damaged mint box. I sent it back for refund. The seller moved while the coin was going back, did not leave a forwarding address. The coin sat at the post office for weeks, they could not find where the seller moved. ebay refunded my money. Couple more weeks later the post office sent the coin back to me. So I got the coin for free but feel bad for the seller. Made me wonder if they had gotten into trouble and skipped town. Their ebay store closed. An actual best deal was on ebay. Got a very rare Roman coin variety of Constantine I with chi-rho (christogram) on helmet for $64, worth several hundred. Seller did not know what they had.

I was on an ebay buying frenzy in 2004 and picked up a 1946 $1 in an old ICCS MS60 flip for $US80 (roughly $CAD110 today). I finally submitted a couple of these purchases along with my grandfather's collection to ANACS, and the 1946 got MS62. I figured it was undergraded all along. By coinsandcanada guide that's now $CAD234 ($US170) and J&M says $CAD250 ($US181). So that alone made it a pretty good score, but after examining it closely (years later) it's also SWL and has a die clash on both sides. SWL c&c says $CAD372 ($US270), an even better score. But it's not the money so much that made it a good score, it's just a very interesting coin with so many things going on. I also picked up a raw 1947ML 50c S7 for about $US160 ($CAD220) that ultimately got ANACS MS63. Overall though I'd say I broke even on the buying frenzy. I was pretty dumb back then and got hosed with quite a few raw cleaned coins and sellers saying "BU" when it's really not.
