Well, I'm very curious what people would grade it as because I'm not sure the TPG grade is quite right (the price was reasonable, regardless - it's not a moon-money coin).

But you're right, it doesn't matter, because I think the coin is beautiful and I'll never sell it.

Gorgeous MS-66* FB. (StaR) I will give that to you if not on the label.
Nice toning, and if it spreads enough it will definitely earn the star***.

IHPO8S is right about it being an NGC slab. The pictures do not do justice to the color of coin, but it was challenging to take pictures through the holder. Every time I look at it I get more excited and do a little dance. I'm gonna go ahead and let myself gush about it, because it is even nicer I hoped it would be.

What I liked about it is that the toning was such a pretty orange color, but it was very subtle on the obverse, mostly around the edge with a lightest glaze over the cap, more extensive on the reverse with green and other shades. Even the toned areas glow with luster. The strike is really nice on the lettering near the edges. Even on some high grade FB Mercury dimes some of the edge lettering can kinda flatten out or blend into the fields a little, but it's crisp on both sides all the way around.

How'd you do? Well, indeed.

MS66FB, at least.

WOW! That is a stunner! Well struck and untouched by time!

I would definitely go with a high MS65FB.

And the NGC grade is.... MS66, no FB. I don't know what they were thinking - it's clearly split, even if the bands aren't fully rounded, so I'm satisfied calling it MS66FB.

I was going to use this for my type set, and eventually try to have a complete set of Mercury dimes in circulated grades, but now I'm thinking I want a short set or long short set all matching this coin in approximate grade and toning (probably not full bands on the '45-P).

Obviously full bands? What were they thinking? Or was this one of those...well...it might devalue the other MS66FBs...so we better not do it....market grading decision. BEAUTIFUL COIN

Will you look at how that girl is trying to tone! Full torch. Die state shows a little age. I couldn't see letting her go at under MS-66, I think that'd break my heart. Nice!

Might not have gotten the FB if the submitter did not specify that on the submission (I think that can be the case). Can you take a closer picture of the top band?
