To their credit, the picture isn't listed in Krause. They would need a specialty catalog; and mine is in Danish.
I'm guessing whoever submitted mis-attributed the coin, and they just went with that.

If they depend on the Krause books for their attribution, then god help us all!

Would they bother to translate other languages? I think not.

Really? I have no slabbed coins and don't plan on owning any ('cause I cannot afford them). But this seems like a pretty serious flaw. Don't you all wonder when such a mistake is made that they will goof something up that may actually be tough.

I have seen many 1878 8Tf marked as 1878 7TF from NGC also. They seem to be getting really bad at it also because I at least see 1 a month and usually more than that and all are from NGC

I've notcied the same trend as Bryan.
Oddly enough, I have yet to see such a goof in a PCGS holder, though I've seen over a dozen various such goofs in NGC holders so far this year. And it seems like only the past 3-4 years that I've started seeing misattributions from NGC (though I was also not nearly as knowledgeable back then).
Some of the grading from NGC seems questionable as well. For example, weakly struck MS-65 coins of a type that is not normally expected to be weakly struck. I always thought that to get an MS-65 the coin has to be a superb strike for the type in addition to grade and surface.

It's only slightly off-topic, since it's still Scandinavia.
Wow--that's a very nice coin to find in your box!
If you have any Swedish coins prior to 1920, there are quite a few overdates.
I have posted my finds to this forum.

They get it wrong quite frequently with world coins! I had my coin attributed as from Mumbai mint, whereas it was actually minted in Calcutta.

I have a PCGS incorrectly certified Canadian Small 8 AU55 five cent piece which ICCS correctly cross graded as a Large 8. But they said it is EF.

A 1908 "small 8" that's actually a L8? Nice find!
