Hello all.

Just want to get thoughts / opinions on Nic-A-Date.
I have about 40 dateless Buffalo nickels.
The average value of a no-date Buffalo nickel is between 10 cents
and 25 cents but if you can find out the date using Nic-A-Date
Wouldn't that be better value wise? I also have a lot of missing holes in my Buffalo nickel book and maybe some of these Nickles can fill them.

I know it's up to me to make the ultimate decision to use it or not but wanted to maybe get some pro's and Con's of using it.

Thanks in advance

Nic a date always ends with a damaged coin.

However, I've done a few just for fun, doubt there's much money to be made.

I wouldn't recommend it. The values will tank, even if it's a desirable key date. It's better to leave them as is.

There is a member who did a decent job treating the entire obverse so it did not leave am ugly spot on the revealed date. However, it is something that takes practice and creates a large number of permanently damaged coins in the learning process.

In the mid 80s I NicaDated a bag of dateless my Father had given me and filled some holes in my old blue Whitman folder. About 30 years later when I decided to examine those coins closely, I could no longer see the dates. I ended up soaking them again in vinegar and sold the 13S type 2 and other better dates on ebay just to rid myself of them.
