They sound like staple holders. The problem with those are dust. The staples are also a problem when your removing a coin from them. Be very careful! "Oooops" is a really bad word to hear around Cams and Proofs. I would *guess* that the hard capsules would work. I believe that's what the Mint puts their Proofs in.

I think I already learned that one... I think I dinged the wing on my first Walker... cause I really didn't remember the ding when I bought it... (crying...:( ) on the coins that don't cost as much... (like a Franklin vs a Morgan) when do you decide if you should get it graded? I was very happy with these 2... and I don't think I over paid on these... (like I have on a few others...)

You can tell if you did or not by the look of the metal. New scratches will have a "fresh cut" look. I'm not really the one to ask about when it's time to get it graded. I sorta have an attitude problem with TPGs. I can only say that if it cost more than $100 I would want it authenticated which means getting it graded as well. But that's just my own arbitrary figure.

Welcome Sheepy !!!
If you're going to put proofs in an album, be real careful so you don't scratch the surfaces with the slides (like on Dansco Albums) or generate fingerprints or other kinds of damage. For proofs, I'd buy a few Airtites to keep them in.

I use airtites, I only collect raw coins , and I will not put proofs in folders or albums,
as for your coins, without pics and knowing what you paid , there is no way we can help you with the value -VS- cost of them.
proofs are very touchy , and the card board 2X2's are not adequate long term storage for them.

Rick, I will snap some photos... I didn't that I should put them in the album... I like the album idea... but was looking at the ones my dad has and questioned how well your coins would be protected. I really like the "nice" coins better than the low grades... does that sound snobby or what? I will look for airtites.

Ok, here they are... are these pics ok? 1963 Franklin Silver Half "Proof Cameo" paid $9.01 1976S Kennedy half "Proof Deep Cameo" Paid $3.75 now, I was reading one of the topics and they were talking about paperwork. These are not graded... hence my question on that... I didn't know if it was worth it...? Image: 1963 Franklin Obv.jpg94.9 KB Image: 1963 Franklin Rev.jpg99.88 KB Image: 1976 Kennedy Obv.jpg100.52 KB Image: 1976 Kennedy Rev.jpg94.74 KB I don't see any dings on the rims... haven't taken them out of their covers... (too scared!) On the Kennedy Rev... you may notice what looks like scratches at 10... when I tilt coin they actually reflect and show double... am guessing the plastic is scratched? Also on the Kennedy Obv... there is a scratch at 8... it doesn't reflect so that probably knocks it hugh?

Hi Sheepy
I think you did well on the cost,, of both coins,,
I would have to see the Franklin in hand to get a feel for the contrast and amount of frosting exhibited by the design to know if it would make cameo or not, but the cost is still well within reason.
The same would apply to the Kennedy, its definitly cameo but to know if it makes Deep cameo is hard to tell from pics.
They are really nice looking coins !!

On the Franklin... Ben is "lightly frosted" it's hard to tell even in person... but the bell is... the eagle is not... JFK is definately frosty... and so is Indepence Hall... although not quite as much... (imho)

Suggest any coins such as those leave in cardboard 2x2's. Get a standard 3 ring notebook binder about 3 or 4 inched thick. Buy those plastic pages that hold about 20 of the 2x2's. Then buy Divider pages. Whole thing should only cost about $20 but will make a fantastic display type album and the coins will stay very safe. If you go to coin shows you'll notice abaout half the dealers use this system. You can use the divider sheets to tabulate what is on what page. As to programs for coins, I suggest just using Excel. Reason is you can add columns as you feel is needed. You can hide columns or rows as you feel is required. Primarily you can usually copy the entire thing onto a 3 1/2 disc, CD, Flash card or what ever and then go to another computer and continue viewing your info. That is if the other computer has Microsoft Office which nowadays I think most do. I've made such spread sheets for All Coins, Albums, Rolls, 2x2's and on and on and on. I print it all out and keep for insurance purposes also. If you have your collection insured, you may want to give your insurance agent a 3 1/2 disc with this info on it just in case.

Wow!!! Great info Carl! I like that idea for the album... I read another post where they were talking about airtites vs albums... I wonder... can you get loose pages that hold airtights to put in a 3 ring binder? You know... I really appreciate all of you on this forum! Everyone is so helpful... THANKS!!!

The coins I have which are of that quality are placed in airtites. I feel completely confident that they are well protected. Then, one of these days I'll see about buying some pages the airtites will fit into.
By the way, my wife just bought a gold Panda, and it now resides in an airtite.
