Still adjusting camera for better pictures. The edge of the rim above the E is split with a crack on the right side going up. When looking at the coin I can clearly see that it is raised, I think this coin may show where the die first began to break. I compared the placement of date, bust and rim of my coin with graded 8/7 s1 and found them to match.
If this coin is a early 8/7 s1 it would truly be one in a million, keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for all replies...

Your 1888 is sure a nice grade! Looks like your camera takes decent pics--how about a shot of the date area?

I was changing settings as I was taking pictures (about 50) it was a fluke that this picture came out clear. I have one very nice picture of the back. I will post the best one of the front although it doesn't show any of the detail around the 8 (other than the height). Also you may notice the shield on the back has the same areas filled in as the graded 8/7 s1. I will resize and post the other 2 pics.

Well...collectors here will be (understandably) skeptical of your claim until they see the markers for themselves.
Since I cannot see the rim Cud marker near LIBERTY, I naturally want to see the primary markers in the date area.
From what I can tell from the above pic, your camera has macro capabilities--unless there's some problem with autofocus.
Rest in Peace

All the ones I've seen also have the rim Cud. I am by no means an expert, but I have my doubts without seeing any resemblence of Cud. Looks like a beautiful coin though! I would get some good pictures and send them to Rick Snow for analysis if you really think it's the S-1.

This picture lacks all detail around the date, but it shows the date placement. In the picture you can barely see points of the seven on top of the eight. The top left of the eight has a triangle and the top right has a small bump. I'll get the date in focus. Also the upper loop of the last eight has a raised line that I see in graded s1.
I did see a setting for "macro" I'll try and find it for the next pics. It makes sense to me that if the rim Cud gets bigger with found coins then it must have started at some point.

Your picture shows enough detail for a discussion of the markers.
I have taken your coin and compared to a confirmed 1888/7 Snow-1.
The best place to start in confirming any IHC variety is the date position.
Compared at "a", the 1 digit on both coins begins at a different place in relation to the nearest denticle.
This also correlates to "b", the gap between the bust point and the leftmost point of the 1. Your coin has a narrower gap.
Therefore, these two coins were struck with 2 different obverse dies--there is really no other explanation.
This explains the missing rim Cud, and notably why "c" is not visible on your coin, which is the stroke end of the 7 on the 1888/7.
The Snow-1 also shows markers at "d", where the upper left of the 7 protrudes slightly from the 8.

You have a nice example of the 1888, but it is not the overdate--we all had our hopes up!
