Hello Jim,
also for me, it was too long ago that I could get here, but still into collecting ;-)
I referered myself for the kepings from sumatra (1786/1798) and the duiten from the netherlands east indies (1731/1793)

Good topic jcook. I don't have a favorite. I have many that I like very very much. Big ones, small ones, shiny ones, dull ones, gold ones, silver ones, copper, nickel....
I'm pretty sure one of the facets that drew me into the hobby of collecting is the overwhelming variety of coins out there.

I love all my coins too, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for my first gold coin, an AU 1886-S half eagle. That's the coin I recently said pushed me over the top for serious collecting.
Saying my "first" gold coin makes it sound like I have hundreds. I don't, just five. But I do have big hopes for the future.

Favorite? hmmmm My list is just too numerous to pick just one. Maybe the Canadian ML or could be the ASE or gee maybe my Pandas...then there's my precious Irish collection................... on and on. Good topic though! Edited by dsking

I would have to say mine would be the Gold Buffalo.
It is my 1st Gold coin and I love wildlife.

I have a huge list of favorites from all over the world and really like silver coins, preferably large, but my number one love is the old Buffalo nickel! I just can't get enough of them and to think they are neither large nor silver? I think a lot of it is the mere fact there is NOTHING political, in any way, shape or form, on them and I can remember spending them when I was a kid? (buying cokes for 6 cents!) And, I am kind of partial to buffalo in more than one way! |

I really like the draped bust design, though I have yet to own a piece (which will hopefully change this weekend). Actually, I like all early halves through Seated coinage. |

With me it's the 1943 Lincoln Cent. When they first came out my Dad gave me some and then he continued to find them for me in change. I accumulated 26 rolls of them before I even started collecting coins as a hobby. I still have all 26 rolls. Odd also so many people with the same name as me lately. Here on this forum, a neighbor, and the real funny one is the guy that built my computer had the name Carl, his assistant is Carl, my son is Carl, my Dad is Carl. |
