Just got my 1000 Gram Digital Scale from Harbor Freight Tools in the mail. I have no way of telling if it's accurate or not, but it looks to be exactly what I wanted. Small, lightweight, runs on AAA batteries, lots of different modes (grams, troy ounces, etc.). And the price really couldn't be beat!

you can either purchase a calibration weight, or weigh a known coin bullion piece, like ASE. I'm not sure what the allowed variance in weight for an ASE is, but it won't be very much.

Is this THE barryg? Harbor freight huh? Looks like I'll be stopping there after work today.

Well, I'm certainly a barryg. I have no idea if I'm the barryg, however.

Do you do crossword puzzles online?

Sorry, I should've been a little more specific. Barry Greenstein uses the name barryg on pokerstars. Any which way, let me know how that Harbor Freight Scale is, I've been looking for one, and I've been going there a lot since buying a house.

Here is the one I purchased off of ebay a few years back. Works well for coins and have had no problems at all with it.

Nope, not me. Sorry! And the scale seems to work really well. As I said, it's impossible for me to say how accurate it is, but it's convenient and multifunctional.

Not sure about flea markets in our area but always try them too for things like a scale. Today, at a local flea market, one seller had about 10 small, scales for items of .01 grams and up. Price was $2 each. Made in China of course but he swore they worked.
Rest in Peace

I am dredging this thread up because I am curious if folks are STILL using their Harbor Freight and other lower-cost scales.

Did they hold up? Are they still accurate?

I am sick of cheap junk from Amazon, ebay, etc and would rather give business to someone else. BUT my web searches don't want to give me any other options!

I have mostly been using this scale which allows easy recalibration as needed with the included weight, from 0.01g to 200g, auto off etc https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HGWFBTV/

I just received a Brifit scale from my wife for Christmas. It goes up to 200g, so works for everything except my largest medals.

I have two scales that I originally purchased on ebay: one is a 50.00 g (for which I've lost the instructions) and a 1000.0 g one which has instructions but no 500g calibration weight. Looked for a calibration weight set, and found this one that included a free scale. Why not?
