That doesn't even look like a real indian on the end.

That's because it is a civil war token.

If they were "unopened" (which the ad does not claim) How would he know they were wheats? On the O and S mint Barber dimes, how does he know they are Barber dimes? The Seated dime from 1860 - 1891 had the same reverse design. On the 1909 -P VDB How does he know what they are? If you can see the 1909 you can't see the VDB. If you can see the VDB you can't see the mintmark.

That's disgusting. Someone needs to smack whoever let that ad through. Seriously.

How would you like to pay good money for an ad next to that piece of garbage? I'd be furious.

I guess the seller is looking for all those that P.T. Barnum said were "born every minute."

Why in heck would Numismatic News accept this garbage ad?
They must be desperate for ad $. I wish someone would write a letter about the excellent 1909=P VDB point raised above!

I agree that messing with this type of roll is a waste of time and money as what you're going to get is the end coins with a bunch of chaff wheats in the middle, but this advertiser isn't misrepresenting anything. They aren't claiming that the roll is "unsearched" like every roll seller on ebay does.

Only the 1909 cent had the V.D.B. on the reverse. When the mint started putting the initials on later they were on the obverse at the base of Lincolns' bust.

If I saw a wheat back cent on the end of a roll and it had V.D.B. on it I would certainly be opening it up to see if the coin had an S mint mark.

Because they included payment with the photo-ready copy.

IMO, that's no excuse. I would never accept that ad here. Their payment would be sent right back.
