Italy doesn't make any 14K gold necklaces and makes nothing that is lower then their standard minimum 18K. Your piece might say Italy on it but it was not made in Italy only made by some Asian country and sold to tourists that wanted cheap Italian jewelry.

What you have is a sterling silver gold plated necklace that is just over half gold in quality. Cause it is so thin and small there isn't a lot of actual gold on that piece.

Still worth more then the $2 you paid but in Italy no respectable Italian would wear a piece of jewelry like that and that is why the person likely didn't want it.

I've seen alot of this stuff. Usually only the clasp is real gold.

I don't know why your dealer is so nervous--it's scrap gold, there are test kits that are accurate enough.

Google would say this statement is incorrect.

granted these dont "prove" anything. But like the second link says

"Is 14kt Italy gold real?"

Quote:
Yes. If it is indeed stamped 14kt. In Italy only 18kt gold can be sold, so anything less is for export only.

Florence in particular has a long tradition of goldsmiths.

I think you mean gold from India, which is usually 22k.

I'm glad you cleared that up ICanSeeYou7687, I was worried for a minute because I have bought several gold chains marked Italy 14K for myself and family members at reputable establishments.

I sold the gold necklace today for 46 dollars. There was a total of 3.2 grams.
Im not sure how much gold in total value it was worth and I know 46 dollars was probably alot less than the value. In the long run I know I probably got ripped off but I only paid a dollar for it.
The silver there was a total of 3.4 ounces altogether. I thought I had more than that but I guess not. She only offered me 57 dollars sheesh. I couldnt accept it with that low of an offer. Then I offered the $1.20 Canadian coins for they were silver also and she only offered me $2.78 dollars. That was a bit of a joke offer there. I'm not selling any more gold and silver to her anymore though. She gave me good deals in the past but now her offers are way to low. I was getting 24 dollars to every ounce when it was 32 an ounce but now she wont even give me 24 dollars an ounce when its at 40.

She did rip you off.....

3.2g of 14K is worth $109.48. You could have scrapped it out with ARA for $107.29. It's about a 2-week turnaround with them.

Circa 1979, a Russian guy with the clothes on his back, less than $100, and very little English vocabulary came to the you SofA. Today, he's a multimillionaire with around 23 pawn shops.

He has a fairly open policy. He'll only buy or lend if he figures he can triple his money.

Maybe that's why you rarely see a two-three store coin chain, but pawn shop chains are common.

Was $46 a rip? I'm guessing that was the top buyer. The seller, just like the yard sale seller, didn't do the homework.

Could have been a decimal shift.

Naw 2.78 was all she would offer me for the silver coins. No decimal shift. I was thinking I would get around 75 dollars for the necklace but 46 was way lower than what I thought. Youre right I need to do more homework before selling next time. I just needed the money as soon as possible. To make matters worse I went to a jeweler today and asked what they would of gave me for 3.2 grams of 14k they said $90.

Now accepting students at the School of Hard Knocks. Credits unquestionably transferable to any other conventional or Interweb school. Tuition costs are quite high, but you don't have to pay back any student loans.
