As Yass has mentioned, errors in the 2001 Australia 50c coin are very common, even multiple errors. I'd suggest the coin may be worth $0.50-$2 depending on how severe the errors are. If there are some photos we would be able to get a better idea.

Reverse A. Struck through error: the "ia" apart of Australia and some of the branches of the coat of arms are missing B. Double edged Obverse C. Doubling on "Australia 2001" and as a consequence the letters and numbers look fatter D. Double edged

The Obv doubling is very common but until there's a picture, I doubt anyone would be prepared to put a price on it.
Condition will be the defining factor, if it's aUnc, it might be worth a couple $$'s, but unlikely to be any more when you consider there are 43m of them.

This looks very similar (if not the same) to a coin that was on ebay a few months back - unfortunately I recently purged my watch-list of ended items so I no longer have the link so I can't say if it sold and if so for how much... I tried searching with no luck - maybe someone else with better skills will be able to find it.

Coins like these a fairly common. While noodling, I tend to keep them, in the hope that when I have enough of them, I might be able to demonstrate a pattern in deterioration. As stated earlier, I would not be paying any sort of premium for them though. They are common

Steve oz the pictures are from the ebay listing and it is still up, although I have found the same errors. The ebay listing is $20.

The coin may be on ebay asking for $20 but that does not may the coin worth that much. I can list a coin for for any price I wish but it doesn't mean it will sell for that price! The coin is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Personally, I wouldn't pay much above face value.

being curious, I have now received the coin pictured on ebay. at first I was convinced it was PMD however on extensive and detailed study I believe (not sure of correct terminology) that a small piece of metal has peeled from the face of the coin as the die retreated, possibly leaving behind what went on to become Cud on subsequent 2001 50c coins edit: the area of the "peel" is in the yellow "A" box in this thread.

I was never convinced that this was an error and was highly suspicious that it was PDM... however I have just received one almost identical (if anything this one has a deeper "peel" where the "ALIA" should have been) to the one I picked up on ebay... As Yass and other have also found them I am definitely calling it a "peel" of some type and confirmed as a mint error.
