Quote: And what is a 1908 Lincoln Memorial reverse?
Sorry about that. I put that on my list of coins to be added but also put a thinking it would have been noticed as a joke. The only way there could be a Lincoln Cent made in 1908 at all is if someone at the Mint was a mind reader. Especially with the Memorial reverse. However, such a coin could really be worth a small fortune. Sort of like a 1946 Mercury dime. As to purchasing a Red Book, I suggest purchasing one a few years old if possible. Almost all the info is there and the prices are more consistant with today's prices.

Yes, a 1908 Lincoln Memorial reverse would be very valuable as it would prove time travel exists seeing as the Memorial wasn't being built until 1912 and finished in 1922. The PCGS values for recent mintings seem rather ridiculous. A 2008-D in MS-68 being worth $1500, come on, give me a break. If that were the case EVERYONE would be dealing in collector coins

LOL @just_carl, you cant play tricks on noobs (me) carl! They dont really know whats out there, thats why I wanted to make this list as well, because I wasnt very aware of what was out there, I'm learning new things everyday from you all on here!
@eaglefoot, I know, I am aware that I'm not gonna be finding possibly none of these type of cents in the wild through roll searching but at least now I know what to really look for, as I had no clue beforehand :-) I'm hoping to get my first box of cents next weekend from the bank!

Once you get your Lincoln album......you'll be pluggin' holes like a madman ! .... And you can then SEE what all you need to look for by the empty hole waiting to be filled !

justcarl: Sometimes you really crack me up! You gotta figure that sometimes people are going to take you literally! Everybody knows that the Lincoln Memorial Reverse was only CONSIDERED for the back of the 1908 Indian Head cent. But few are aware that a very rare pattern die was made featuring the Lincoln Memorial, (though never introduced into production), for the reverse of the 1909 Lincoln Cent when it replaced the IHC in 1909... Only three patterns are known to exist, one in the hands of Seymour Fakery, (ex Indian Consulate, and ambassador to the U.S. in 1909), Lyon Foshure, (former head of U.S. Mint production at the turn on the century), and Notta Chance, (former mint employee who stole one of the rare patterns). All three were sold at a Sotheby's rare coin auction on December 7, 1941 - when the primary news of the day was the fact that each coin brought $500,000.00 apiece! If you're going to relay information - you've got to get the facts right! Head of Research: LastGold

Quote: You just simply AREN'T going to find all of the keys and semi-keys for Lincoln Cents and/or all the other denominations that you decide to pursue by roll searching in the wild. Those coins might be extremely difficult, but you cannot say with absolute certainty that "You just simply AREN'T going to find" them. CCF family members here have found them "in the wild" by roll searching. Never say never. Keep the faith. Les

Appears that the time traveler made the above facts. Imagine a coin made with a building on it that didn't exist, yet? The goods and bads of posting a joke reply is it starts lots of members looking that up. The bad part is unless it is clearly noted as a joke, a young and/or new member may go out looking for such a coin. The good part though is what if he finds it?

just carl: If any forum member finds one of the three patterns referred to in my previous post in this thread ( a 1909 cent, with Lincoln Memorial reverse) , I will roll a peanut from here to New York - with my nose! Lots of crazy stuff being found by the roll searchers lately, but I think I am safe on this one!

Sorry Carl ! I never read or saw your original post saying that with the happy face ! .... I only responded to the post mentioning that right above MINE ! .... Quote: Those coins might be extremely difficult, but you cannot say with absolute certainty that "You just simply AREN'T going to find" them. I am aware of most of the CCF members findings...I've been a member here for years. But I was trying to only give "realistic" expectations to a YN. But, yes, I suppose if he searches $5,000.00 worth of bank boxes of Cents a month for 5 or 10 years, CONSISTANTLY, there's a very small, "winning lottery ticket" percentage of a chance that he might actually find a 1909-S V.D.B ! ...or a '55 DDO...or a '31-S.....or a '22 no D.....or a '14-D...... And/or the "keys" in all the other denominations too. Mercury dimes come to mind..... But yes, it does, can, and HAS happened, and could for ANYBODY at any given time. Just "realistic expectations" implied was all. If you're REALLY REALLY lucky.....or become a roll searching fiend with no time for anything else except "searching"......then yeah.....anything is possible with the effort ! .... I roll search like a crazed mad-man for several months at a time myself. And I've had DOZENS of SWEEEEEEET coin surprises...It's just SO much fun and SO rewarding.....but I do not ever expect "lightening in a bottle" ! I'd LOVE to be stunned someday.......but I'm not holding my breath for any "keys" !

Yea I'm not wanting to be consumed by all that time because frankly I dont have much spare time right now, I just think this is a fun hobby to pursue and maybe i'll get lucky and find some nice coins! I'll probably get more into it after the holidays this year especially if I'm gonna be snowed in on somedays.

I remember one where a bank president that never played the lottery bought one ticket and won millions. A factory owner put in a lottery machine to help keep his employees from leaving work to buy tickets. He tried it when they first put the machine in and also won millions. A neighbor told me his son, 10 years old, filled an entire Lincoln Cent Album, 09 to present and asked if this is easy. All such things have to happen to someone so why not you? So many things happen and usually when you don't expect.

exactly! I remember when I had my fiance go to the bank and get $5 worth of pennies, when I got home that night and the oldest penny I found was my first wheat 1952D I was so excited lol just the thrill to be able to find that old of a penny especially in circulation just blows my mind, I think to me its more of the history of the penny more than anything that gets me excited about all of this! plus I think it would be fun to get a full book of every coin filled up! I know it will be a real undertaking to get all of those coins but I think it will be worth it in the end!
