If that is real, a great price for that one. Keep us informed.

It couldn't happen twice in one day ...

I just bought another 1909 from a seller who has a couple lots up, and selected a few individual coins to list. I paid 18.00 to the door for this one. Look closely under that crud. That one is more in keeping with the size and placement of the San Francisco mint mark. This one feels better, even though it's a lower grade coin.

I don't know...I don't really see anything conclusive on any or these pics.

The rumor that canadian sellers often forget about mintmarks on US coins...does anyone have any experience where this has been true or is it just a rumor

A great deal indeed if genuine. I too have never heard of certain Canadian sellers adding mintmarks.
I would have paid $15 all day long for that gamble, what the heck.

Clearly, the odds are against either being the real deal, but I'm adventurous. Sometimes these things turn out, sometimes they don't.

My strategy is probably the same as that of a lot of people, namely to hold the best of what I buy and sell off what I need to in order to cover my cost and see what I can keep as my margin of profit.

I've made a few really good pickups in the past couple months. The best deals required a little luck, buying from fuzzy pictures and/or from folks not versed in numismatic lingo.

I'll keep you posted ... either way.

Thanks .... We'll all know soon enough. Nova Scotia is a pretty good leg from Pa, so it may take awhile to get here, but it's been marked shipped, so the journey has begun.

These kind of gambles are long odds .... but low stakes where I'm "in". Upside is potentiallt significant, downside, largely "not".
