the question is...does he know it's fake, or did he buy a bunch from somebody who knew they were fake and is trying to resell. The guy does have some good feedback and he is selling genuine buffalos, and some other IHCs that look ok to me at least. All the keys and his other items make me think he's a pawn shop guy that got duped by somebody bringing in an IHC collection with "some" fake ones.

good point hesgut. He should definitely get the benefit of the doubt and we should politely inform him.

I hope he is kind and does not take it personally. All we are doing is informing him. Well done John ;-)

I'm not a IHC expert, so this doesn't jump out to me as an obvious fake. Can you tell me what makes you think it is a counterfeit?

Saruma,

Compare the font, size, and positioning of the bottom coin(genuine 1872 PCGS cent) to the sellers.

Thanks Johnny! This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me keep coming back to this forum, helpful people willing to share their knowledge. When you put those images side by side the fake date is pretty obvious.

I expect to have to be weary of counterfeits on the big ticket coins like an 1877 IHC or a 1909S VDB cent, but I'm starting to realize that almost no coin is safe from these guys. At least the harsh cleaning (or whatever caused that weird coloration) would have kept me away from that coin had I been interested in that date.

I told the seller that the coins were fake, and the response was simply:

"xx"

Anyone know what that means? Are they sending me kisses? lol
