I was reading the new e-Bay proposed rules on the e-Bay Coin and Currency forum and found a message that seemed strange to me at best.

So I went to SGS's website and was shocked!

Here's what it reads...
__________________________________________________________
News:
On April 10, 2007, Star Grading Services was requested to submit a proposal for exclusive grading services for the American Numismatic Association. While we do not currently have the resources to do this, we viewed the request as a wonderful recognition of our growing popularity and market acceptance.

I am shocked!

I am not an ANA member so I cannot confirm this statement. If it is NOT TRUE then I would hope that not only would the ANA file a lawsuit against SGS but also publish public statements denouncing this SGS claim.

I would seriously doubt that ANA submitted any such proposal to SGS.

I have read all the current problems at ANA and even with the changes that had been proposed that SGS would not have received such a proposal from the ANA understand how NEGATIVELY the coin community feels toward SGS.

I believe the ANA sent a "form letter" to many TPG's. The ANA's contract with NGC was due to end. The ANA was shopping around for a new contract.
It's possible that SGS was sent a letter.

This maybe TRUE

Star Grading Services was requested to submit a proposal for exclusive grading services for the American Numismatic Association.

This is TRUE

While we do not currently have the resources to do this,

This is their OPINION which is TRUE to them

we viewed the request as a wonderful recognition of our growing popularity and market acceptance.

I went to the ANA web site money.org and got the e-mail addresses of all of the officials and did a group e-mail.

I just received one reply...

Re; Your e-mail in reference to SGS' Grading Services;

I am an ANA member, in fact I am a member of the Board of Governors!

This is the first that I have heard of the SGS proposal. I can assure you that I will look
into it.

Sincerely

Ed Rochette

I have been thinking of joining the ANA, if this is true all respect that I may have had will be gone for the ANA and will not join.

REPLY FROM THE ANA PRESIDENT!

I have looked at the SGS website

http://www.stargrading.org

and have forward your information about SGS's statement to our legal counsel.

The ANA sent out RFB (request for bid) to 11 coin different grading services with minimum required criteria.

Thank you for contacting us.

Sincerely,
Barry Stuppler

Well that says a lot of nothing. It doesn't confirm whether or not SGS was one of the 11 TPG's, and it doesn't say why the information was being forwarded to the legal counsel (what action, if any, they hope to take.). It could just be going to the counsel as an FYI, or maybe SGS violated a clause by making it public that they received a bid request. Without further clarification that reply from Stuppler is a waste of electrons. (Heck he might hav4 even sent the info to the counsel to make sure they do send a RFB to SGS next time and make it an even dozen.)
