I was just wondering what anyone thinks of LCC. About a year or so ago, I had bought some stuff from them with their "wonderful monthly shipments." I bought just enough to get two free albums out of the deal (Silver Eagle and SBA) then I cancelled. My opinion was that their coins were nice but the prices seemed kind of high (1.25-2x RedBook prices). All together I probably spent enough extra money on the coins that I did buy to pay for the albums as well so they weren't really "free." Currently, I buy almost all of my coins from local shops in St. Louis, at shows, or through ebay. |

Littleton is EXTREMELY expensive!!! Had a cousin question there prices, by telephone, and the receptionist stated their prices were higher because they had BETTER coins? Take that for what it is worth. There are some excellent small dealers who do monthly consignment offers. I would suggest you pick up a CoinAge Magazine and look for their ads scattered throughout the mag. My wife does some business with a small dealer in Illinois and has been very happy with his quality and prices. Nothing beats getting to see coins before purchasing them!

When I first started collecting, they offered me a subscription service.
The first two coins were way below market value every Coin after that was ABOVE market value.
Then they offered me a "FIVE Dollar" coin which I purchased, when it arrived it was a one dollar coin. It took two weeks of discussions back & forth but they finally sent me the correct coin and some other coins to cover my time and energy- "peace offering"
They are a well known dealership.
If they have a coin that you want and you can not find it anywhere else for less, they will send you a quality coin.

Conservative grading, but at a price! As I stated many times before, its as if two companies exist within one. Littleton's ad's and home sales were the way many people collected. They put together little packets of coins for examination, hoping you would keep them. It worked! They are priced about the same as the T.V. guys on most stuff, selling the painted quarters and plated this that or another thing. Now we have the electronic seller's,doing it all over again. Mike  |

Littleton Coin Company has been in business a long time but they, in my opinion, are in the same class as the coin sellers on T.V.

Littleton is GREAT at coinshows, but their bread and butter comes from their catalog prices which are incredibly high. So if you see them at the shows, buy!

I remember buying coins from Littleton as a kid in the 1950s. It caters to the comic book and matchbook cover crowd who are subject to fancy sales pitches, buy on impulse, and pay too much. With some possible exceptions, it's not for the serious coin collector.

I wasn't real happy with my dealings with the company, but it was partly my fault for not reading more carefully.
As I recall, I was supposed to receive two "free" coins, but got only one. Along with it came the "coins for my consideration." I had missed that part of the deal.
So, I'm sure it's an honest business, just a little on the high side. Better off, I would think, to buy from your dealer, if one is nearby.

While I wouldn't buy from them now since they are pricey, it was wonderful when I was a kid. For very little money, I got to buy little packets of coins that I could go through. I loved that as a child. It didn't matter that those packets didn't contain coins that had a lot of cash value attached to them. As a child, I was more interested in looking at the coins and learning how to grade them. I got to see a lot of world coinage through them and some US. It was a great way to dabble in different things without paying a lot of money.

I also remember receiving their approval packages of coins; I think back then one joined their club, received coins every month. IIRC, the packages were a combo of relatively common US and non-US coins, none costing very much; I picked the ones I wanted and sent the rest back with payment. While none had any real value, it was a wonderful introduction to coins of the world and from the past. Back then in the 50s, Indian Head cents were still often found in circulation and I grabbed onto those. I'm certain in my "misc" box, I still have some from Littleton. Seems to me at one time they also offered stamps since I remember receiving those also, but memory fails me in my advancing decrepit old age.  |

I thought so. More than 20 years ago, I was reunited with, and appraised my stamp album which had mostly cancelled stamps collected when I was a kid and found that it was worth at best about ten dollars. I had never had a mentor to tell me that a serious stamp collection should consist of uncancelled stamps (with qualifications), so I gave it away and concentrated on coins. Never looked back. |

I would love to find a local shop that I could become personable with, but as you have read before, they aren't around here. Just rude, rude, rude. It's not real cost effective for me to travel out to lakeland or west palm beach. From the looks of it, my grandfather was a long time customer of LCC. I have only taken one delivery. The price for my 2001 ASE was about 1.5-2 dollars more than red books price. I went on ebay to see what kind of deal I could get. All the 2001 ASE UNC I found were priced above what I paid through LCC and that wasn't including the shipping I would have had to pay via ebay. Furthermore, LCC, stated their prices were higher than most. I like that upfront honesty. I guess it will be up to me if the coins and their convience are worth the extra $$$. |

I have the same problem, when you are a darksider, the shops do not want to talk with you. I have found a shop in Australia where the owner was willing to work with me & I am in contact via email post and phone. My thanks to Bigfella. Once you find a shop if is good the owners will work with you and notify you if ther is something in stock thay you might like- (the good shops) Not aware of how far you are from West Palm Beach, but I have found very few shops there that take an interest in their customers except one. You want to get in touch with Rechant Metal Traders 1730 S. Congress Avenue West Palm Beach, FL 33408 561-964-8180 and you want to ask for Tony. Tony is also the President of the West Palm Beach Coin club. I have found him to be honest and fairly priced and willing to work with collectors both new and experienced. rggoodie

In all these years I never purchased any of my coins from Littleton Coin Co. nor have I joined in their club or had any subscriptions from them. I have however purchased several items in the coin supply area and found them to be very professional in their handling of the orders. As far as I know they are a reliable company.
