Sorry about the quality of the images, I had a bit of bother getting them down to size, it weighs approx 2.5 gramms
It appears to be brass alloy?

Sadly, this would be a gold-plated imitation of an early Ottoman gold coin, made for decorative purposes. One could call it a "belly dancer's coin".

There are numbers written sideways in the top pic, which (if I'm right) is upside down: "8978". Presumably a batch number, rather than a date, because it's sideways compared to the illegible "text".
