This coin is another that was set aside at the shop a while back. it was in the pile with the 1882-O/S EDS I posted. I looked at it and confirmed the "Partial Collar" attribution, did a little research, and packaged it with a $120 price. I thought the price was very reasonable considering the lack of interest around here for this type of thing. It sat in the case for I guess about two months now- I could not let it sit any longer So I picked it up this week at 10% off- $108. I guess I am the interest in this sort of thing around here....
A Partial Collar strike happens when the collar (sometimes called "the edge die") does not engage properly and the reeding is not struck into that part of the coin which does not contact the collar. In this case the obv half of the collar did not engage , leaving the smooth edge of the Planchet against the lower reeded reverse edge. I think I got that right...any corrections are welcome !

Cool...I really like that, especially how the reeding is mostly absent on one side.

I have a couple of these errors now but just on a 40% Kennedy and a State Quarter, nothing as awesome as a Morgan
I would have to say that was worth every bit of $120 asking price, silver dollar errors are tough

QFT. Railroad Rims on Morgans are extremely scarce; this one's a keeper.
