Hi everyone.
Can you tell me if you think this is the overdate? The bottom loop of the 8 is filled in like other lower grade examples I have checked out online, but as you can see there is flatness going across the bottom of the hole date

JJ987, Welcome to the forum!

It lacks the "die chip" the Chery Picker Guide says the genuine has near the right hand star. On another note, the mintmark looks different, but maybe all is related to the damage cause. So I would say no. But always look !

That's definitely not it. The upper hole in the 8 has a straight right edge on the real thing. Yours doesn't.

Exactly. It's similar to the 18/7-D 5-cent piece where the top of the 8, in this case, the right side of the upper loop, you'd see a flat side where the 7 intersects the 8. Thus, the 8 over 7.
