Found this quarter as is. Mostly sure it's a vice job but to be sure I'm running it by the group.
The numeral or letter that shows over the eagles left wing isn't visable in hand. only shows in the pic.

You're correct. A Vise Job. PMD.

How to tell at once that it's a vise job:

- The coin is now definitely no longer fully circular; such distortion cannot happen when being struck and still retain the milled edge, as the collar die cannot deform out of circularity.
- The edge milling is bent and twisted. Much the same reasoning; the collar die cannot bend and twist like this.
- On the opposite side of the coin, at the point opposite the indentation, the design has been flattened. This is as a result of some kind of post-strike secondary impact (i.e. PMD) striking or squeezing the coin against something else.
- It has clearly been squeezed into another finished coin, with a sharp rim. In other words, both this coin and the coin-that-did-the-squeezing were already-finished coins. THis also points to a secondary, post-striking event.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Yes, post-strike damage of a 'squozen' nature.
