Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6398 Posts	Posted 10/10/2011 1:09 pm I'd say VF-20 maybe 25. The flaw at the bottom of the reverse looks like a lamination or similar planchet defect. These are pretty common on these small silver coins I believe. That shiny area on the reverse looks like a problem: the rest of the coin has an original-looking gray color but that area appears to have been rubbed. Maybe someone started to aggressively clean the coin and stopped? In any case I think that will hurt the value a bit. Report this Post to the Staff

I did notice that after I took the picture. You can't really notice it right away because the coin is so small in the hand. So now this give me a few questions. 1) If the value goes down because of the "shiny" area, how much does it go down. 2) Does a planchet defect make the value go up or down? EDIT: PS. The shiny part is NOT shiny in hand or under a loop. It is lighter than the rest of the coin, but not shiny. I think the lighting in the photo makes it look worse than it is. Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6398 Posts	Posted 10/10/2011 10:04 pm Retail for this coin in VF-20 is around $50 but I expect it is available for a bit less. If the light area is not noticeable then maybe it won't matter much. If a buyer spots it and considers it a defect similar to a light cleaning that could at a guess cut the value by 20%. Check ebay for auction results for similar coins. That should give you a decent real-world estimate of value. Report this Post to the Staff
