Phone: What are you getting for 64 halves?
BF: 24x on $100 face.
P: What was that again?
BF: $12 per in quantities of $100.
P: What are you paying for them? (Must be confused, I thought he wanted to buy some)
BF: 19x on that quantity.
P: So, $11.
BF: Yeah.

I wonder what math system multiplies 19 by a half and comes up with 11.

The youtube clip was absolutely hilarious. I thought the funniest part was the gentleman who gets up who hasn't littered for 8+ months..."well what's that then". hahaha

The math behind 19/2 = 11 is pretty outrageous, but the guy might not have really known what you were talking about period...and was just playing coy and threw out a number that was lower. I'd give him a pass.

I've also heard much worse than that. When I got one of my sailing licenses, I took a 100 point test and missed 2.5 points. The grader was obviously confused by the .5 and gave me a score of 98.5/100. He looked at it for a while, thought that can't be right...changed it to 96.5/100. I'd seen enough at that point and just told him my score was 97.5/100. He was like "yeah, whatever, you passed"

Technically he's innumerate, not illiterate. Actually, he might be both.

to those of you who responded to the YouTube clip:
this advert is currently featuring on Australian TV. All of the actors are extremely well-known to us, some are comedians; the main character, Derryn HINCH is a "love him or hate him" character. Americans might call him a "shock-jock". He is very generous with his time and energy for community promotions, such as this. Balancing that, he has been to prison for a "freedom of speech" issue, and narrowly escaped another stretch this year because he needed to be readily accessible if a transplant donor is available. Along that journey, he was also Australian Scrabble champion, and has written a few books on that subject, and others.
