I don't know if any of you collect the Statehood Quarter spoons but it appears that this is going to be where some serious money will be found. My wife started the series when the mint first offered them and has managed to keep up but after the story which ran in this issue of Coin World she has upgraded her subscription to get the spoons. These spoons, at $7.95, sure seemed like a really stupid waste to me but NOW I wish I was collecting spoons as well! North Carolina is selling for $600 to $800 with Kentucky and New York nearing the $160 to $200 mark. Collectors purchasing the spoons fell off dramatically after the first year so just a little over 4000 full sets can ever be completed! Who would have ever thought this could happen with this Mint product! At the rate they are going a full set could fetch $3000 to $4000 by the time the series ends. I am still stunned that my wife is coming out smelling like a rose on these stupid spoons!!!

Good for your wife, Terry.
Here is a perfect example of "Collect what YOU like" no matter what anybody says.

Now I am glad I talked her into keeping them in the original boxes and not buying the wall box to hang them in/on! Figured they would just draw dust hanging there! Of course the darn things are starting to tone in the boxes as they come lying on a piece of black foam. No win situation but by golly she has the whole set going for her!!! Guess I am still just a little shocked by all of this! Glad she has hung in there and kept her collection up to date!

Hey C64- your wife didn't happen to get ahold of one of the infamous "Kentuckey" spoons, did she? Then she'd really have something! It's like knowtracks said, collect what you like. We used to make fun of my grandmother for collecting McDonald's Happy Meal boxes and toys. Some of that "junk" is going for good money on eBay- now who's laughing?

No she got the correct spelling on the Kentucky spoon. Darn the luck! I am still in shock over the prices people will pay for a spoon! Guess I can't collect everything even though, at times, I feel I am giving it my best shot!
