Hi folks. Please excuse my ignorance. Very very amatuer collector. How can one tell if a 1968 dime is silver or nickel. To my understanding some are 50% silver while others are 99% nickel. Is this correct and if so how do you tell? Thanks for your time. Cheers!

Try using a magnet. That might not work, but sometimes does.

99% nickel will stick to a magnet. 50% silver/50% Cu will NOT stick to a magnet.

Like pennyforme said, if it sticks to a magnet it is nickel, if it doesn't you have a 50% dime, you can also do a drop test silver has a distinct ring to it when dropped.
