We appreciate your help in dealing with spam, we really do.

But.... Replying to a spam post is the absolute worst thing you could do. I know it's hard to resist, but all it does is bump the post back to the top of the list making it even more visible. There is nothing you can post that will make these people stop, they just don't care.

So please, just hit the "Send Note to Staff" link to report it and forget about it.

Bump again. This is getting ridiculous. Last night we had a long time member actually take the time to upload a goofy picture in a reply to a spammer in an attempt to make fun of them. THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS. All you did was bump their spam back to the top of the list and if the spammer saw it, they would be thanking you. This member took the time to do this goofy crap but didn't even bother to report it.

DO NOT FEED THE SPAMMERS!

And a big thank you to all those that handle spammers properly.

OK, we just had a blatant spam post an hour ago. Three different members, whose post counts total over 10,000, actually responded to the spam and even mentioned it was spam. But not one of them reported it.

Please people, responding is the absolute worst thing you can do. Just report it.

I guess I have to bump this again as people just don't get it. One spam post last night had 8 replies, from long time members that should know better.

DO NOT REPLY TO SPAM.... EVER.

Report it ONCE and move on.

Please!

Quote:
What is spam on CCF?

It's the sort of thing that usually "you know it when you see it". But a brief summary:

- Anything not coin-related.*
- Anything in a foreign language. Randomly-generated spambabble qualifies as "another language", because it sure ain't English.
- Anything from a "new member" that seems to be trying to advertise or sell something, whether coin-related or not.*
- Anything from a "new member" that's posting a link, purely in the hopes of the link staying here long enough to boost the search engine rating of the website being linked to.

* - unless it's in the restricted subforum specifically for posting and discussing such things.

Some spam is pretty sneaky, or they try to be - like one a couple of years ago that copy-and-pasted random postings from other people's coin postings from CCF and other coin forums, but embedded links to some movie or Indian florist or Chinese dating service or whatever it was in the discussion.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Maybe those members that post replies to spam should be sent a message with a link (or reference) to this topic...with a strong hint that they read it.

If someone from a foreign country joins and I greet them in their native language would that be considered spam?

I don't know how many different ways to say it.

DON'T REPLY TO SPAM

Just report it and move on. Any reply, even just a , or even a negative comment just does the spammer a favor. Yes even by telling them to get lost you have helped them by replying. You just moved their topic back to the top of the list. They couldn't possibly care less what you have to say they are just grateful you replied.

I can't believe we have members that have been here for years with thousands upon thousands of posts that have been told this before and still feel the need to reply to spammers.

Sad to say but I have to revive this topic again.

We had a spammer 10 hours ago and two members that have been here for YEARS with many THOUSANDS of posts felt the need to make silly comments and post dumb memes to the topic and just keep bumping it back to the top. At least one of them reported it, the other just fed the spammer and did NOTHING about it.

I don't know how many ways to say it...

DO NOT FEED THE SPAMMERS!
