Oh, I'm not at all offended, NGiles. I honestly expected five times the price that coin brought, and I'm seriously considering holding on to the second one for another year, to allow more collectors to begin specializing in 1921's.

(Power Sellers)For the people that do nothing but sell on ebay the postage fees etc work out in average of all things sold. The person that sells very little can't continue to absorb the loss of money on ebay fee's, pay-pal fees, postage, supplies and time involved. Beside which I hear people complain about people on ebay charging so much for shipping , then I look at the slabbing companies that charge a minimum of 12.95 for shipping. The topper is that now with most buyers on ebay now using the different Sniper Ware the old days of auctions as we knew them are gone and if you want the price for something and won't take anything less you best start your auction at that price or the snipers will attack and will win your item for less than you know it is worth. Power Sellers work on percentages and can afford to lose some money to make more, the little guys are at their mercy and can't afford to do this. I honestly believe that ebay auctions as we knew them are gone ! |

There everybody is right about the postage cost bunch of  But in saying so I do buy from them and have recently got this on there  See if you can find the valuable coin  I got this lot for just over € 150.00. I hope the coin I got gets to meet my grade as I will put it on here for you to judge  I dont think the person selling this knew what he had, as he did say he did not know why it reached this price, needless to say I did not tell him  TY On the original post, I would say that buying on ebay is much better than selling, as I would rather sell at a auction house  Edited by Sinbad

Ooh a mystery coin. Like the seller I have no idea! Yes I wish the good old auction would come back also. As it is the coin sits there for a week virtually unbid on until the last 10 seconds when everyone goes mental. That's not an auction, it's a snipetion.  There's an Australian auction site that extents the auction another minute if any bids are placed under the 1 minute mark. That should end the sniping. And yes I've bought some coins that looked rather shiny for their age. They ended up to be so heavily polished half the details were worn down. Of course the photo didn't show that. But in this case it doesn't matter as the metal value of the coins was a lot higher than I won them for. But of course the coins are then just bullion and have no collector value. |

Learjet, in one finnish online-auction, the system extends the auction by 5 minutes, if any bids are placed within the last 5 minutes of the auction. Thus, if there is 'late' bid-war going on, the system extends the auction all the time, until one of the participants back out  This has very effectively made sniping totally useless in this particular online-auction. As for ebay as a source for coins/banknotes...well, for me it's a great source of coins, since I'm only interested in older F-VF coins; these are coins that are actually been used in the past for purchasing and thus having a 'real' history. For a circulated coin/banknote collector, like myself, ebay is almost like heaven! I've made excellent purchases too, like some circulated (all of them in F - XF condition) Soviet coins: 130 different years and nominations for total sum on $13...and that included postage. -JJ- Edited by -JJH-

 You've got me beat, Sinbad... unless that's a 1958 owl 100 francs, over there at centre row, extreme right. I can barely make out the dates; you must have an amazing graphics enhancer program if you can see the privy marks there! The only things I've bought on ebay are "must have" coins I haven't been able to get by any other means available to me (dealers, coin show, coin clubs, friends/fellow collectors). Mostly these are coins from overseas sellers. In the end, I don't use ebay all that much. I've been on ebay since 2002 and amassed a grand total of 28 feedback points. Pretty sleepy. Sinbad, you can upload to our gallery here and use those images for ebay if you want. If you don't know how to do it, there's a little impromptu tutorial around here when I showed Rick how to do it. I'll see if I can find it. |

I buy and sell on ebay, have been burnt once on buying, never on selling. Education is the key, education on coins, the market, the seller. Not only check feedback rating, look a the feedback itself and check the item by cliking the number, much feedback can be generated selling 10cent items 40 times a day. Also check previous name history, change of names can be a red flag. the one time I got burnt was on 4 BU Morgans from a guy who had a coin shop in Las Vegas (I know, sounds bad already!) He had great history, feeback, etc. I even called him on the phone before bidding. Right after he got my money (and a bunch of other people's) he closed shop and filed bankrupty...so in spite of all the precautions you may take you can still get burned even though you do everything right. My last sale I sold some 2002 BU Eagles lising at $13.50 start price and $1 shipping. Final sales prices were $15.50 to $17.50 but auctions closing just before mine people bought the same 2002 BU Eagles or a little less but paid $6.50 for shipping! There is good and bad on ebay. I buy mostly proofs or mint rolls so I am on firmer ground. Raw coins I would prefer to examine myself if at all possible but all other factors above considered I would not be afraid to bid on one I liked...oh yeah, as long as it wasn't outside the US. |

We ship our coins overseas by Global Priority Mail using the small flat rate envelope whenever possible. There are some countries that you cannot use Global Priority and then we use Airmail Letter Post. We charge $6.00 for Global Priority. Here is the link to the USPS to calculate shipping. There is a link at the top that says ID history. When you click on it, you will see previous IDs.

Sorry I still can't find it. Does it only show up with sellers that have had previous ID's? Edit, I found out why I couldn't find it. Australian ebay is different. It does not show the User ID tab, but the USA version of ebay does. Took me a while to figure it out! Edit again, it is available on Australian ebay but it's hidden under the "more options" tab. Our pages are quite different. Well I learned something today. Edited by Learjet
