I'm considering bidding on this item. To me it (appears) to be legit.

- Is 0.5% negative feedback considered respectable?

- I feel a bit uncomfortable calling in my credit card information, as per the payment instructions.

For the ebay veteran buyers, would you feel safe bidding on it?

Everything appears to be legit. It's Always a good idea to ask questions when in doubt instead of jumping head first. As far as feedback always check what the Neg feedback was and how many. Personally I think 3 Neg out of 582 isn't that bad. This also isn't a one time thing for him for high dollar coins. It seems to be his specialty.

I would call them. Ask questions and express your concerns. Paying with a check on ebay is normal but it's odd for them to list the information on the auction. I personally would send a check and not risk a card number over the phone.

Someone will come along that has either dealt with or heard about this dealer themselves. Good luck!

He looks okay. The 14 day return policy is comforting. He's got good feedback and repeat customers. I'd buy the coin if I really wanted it. It's an expensive piece though, do you think it's priced fairly?

RedBook says UNC is $925. Couldn't find a PCGS pricing guide for Colonial Issues though. Didn't even know they graded those.

I think you're fine.

Whois lookup shows the site was established in 1998. Phone number in the listing matches the phone number on the website. Seems pretty solid to me.

Scratch that. Seems high based on recent Heritage auctions.

Looks safe to me. I have received only one negative feedback over two years ago, and that was from a dealer in Hollywood that retaliated after I left negative feeback for him. I bought a nice 1934 D Washington quarter in AU50 Anacs holder for $70, paying with paypal and when the package arrived it was a check for $70, no coin.

Of course I complained and he just laughed and said it would cost another $30 if I wanted it. He felt he could do better relisting it.

He was using the PNG logo on his listings and his website so I called the PNG and told them about what he did. They called him and eventually called me back stating that he was not a PNG dealer. I have no idea if they threatened him for using their logo or not, but I don't believe he lists on ebay any more.

Paratrooper--Good call checking out Heritage. I do that too, as well as Teletrade, and not only does the price seem about $150 higher than the average, the coin itself (maybe it's the holder, maybe the photo, maybe just me) doesn't appear as warm or well-struck as some of the other recent sales.

On the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from the seller at a price with which you were more comfortable.

All the best.

I have a number of Wood's Hibernias, none in MS, but decent looking.

Chris Victor-McCawley has a few in MS for retail price comparisons

go to links, his banner, colonial coins, special colonial coins.

Not sure about the grade. Seems reasonable to me. However, when I was more active in early copper, the EACS and CCCC members always complained that the slabbing services didn't know how to properly grade early coppers (large cents and colonials). They would always "liberate" the coins from their holders.

I have not bought from this seller, but he looks reliable.
