Interesting ebay item...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/39046748843....m1439.l2649

The seller says he bought it labelled as a specimen but he doesn't know. It sure seems to have nice fields....maybe it is. But I don't know much about old specimen grade coins.

Seems kind of funny to see a specimen out in the wild so to speak.

Any opinions?

It says proof I'm not much on Canadian coins but I believe specimen and proof coins are different.

'Specimen grade' has different definitions for different people.
My version:
A specimen coin is one that has been struck from selected new dies intended for circulation, and are taken from the press individually to avoid any damage.

They can be fairly easily spotted because they have few blemishes, no bag marks and have never seen any circulation at all. They are usually marketed ex Mint in this condition. They sometimes find their way into circulation, and when that happens, to my mind, they are no longer 'specimen' coins.

Many decades ago, proof coins were made in this way. They are now struck with dies that have cameo relief and polished fields, and struck using polished blanks. I am not keen on modern proof coins. To obtain the cameo effect the relief detail is etched to obtain it, and some of the relief detail is inevitably lost.

Does not look like a specimen strike to me.

It is a very nice coin, well struck. So well in fact, it could be a specimen strike. Definitely not a proof though.

Based on the pics....

I would say it's no proof and no specimen.
