Obviously suffered from some kind of environmental impact... Bag coins? End coins from some concreted hoard rows? A really, really bad coin cabinet felt or leather? I don't know how much it cost for PCGS to holder them, or if it was even worth it (certification fees, ebay listing & selling fees, paypal fees + free shipping plus packing materials costs [excluding all the time involved], and finally the out-of-pocket cost of the coins)... I've seen raw examples with similar condition/issues occasionally sell for more than that as an auction. Some collectors just can't get past the one good side it seems. Report this Post to the Staff
realeswatcher Pillar of the Community United States 1962 Posts	Posted 09/27/2012 01:48 am Broken-Coin makes a good point about the grading fees, etc.... any reasonable collector can tell those are genuine pieces that something happened to (I've asked the seller... waiting on a response - I'm curious about what caused it).... HOWEVER, Numismat also is correct about "you'd be surprised" A) One-siders could have a use for coin jewelry, framed displays, etc... B) Even complete garbage portrait 8R pretty much go for at least $50 now... Almost all of these pieces selling very quickly attests to that. Report this Post to the Staff
