It is a map of, and the initails of Vermont. Yes, someone is just trying to be funny. Steve

I'm sure there are people who collect these. A few weeks ago someone posted a Lincoln Cent with an engraving of Kennedy on the obverse.

It would be neat to have a collection featuring one from each state.

Yeah, you could make a map of the US and fill the holes like the State Quarters. I have often thought of this. I have several with different states and wondered if there were more. Never seen Vermont though. Neat! Michael

Is there a book that lists these stampings? I have a South Dakota, a Nebraska and one that commemorates the moon landing.

Any ideas on how people put these engravings on the coins?

They are counterstamps. Little punches like leather punches and a mallet. They are not engraved, or cut, into the coins.
All 50 states are available - been so since the 1960s. Often times they are spent and found like in this case. I have been working on a set of all 50 states from pocket change for over 20 years now. I have 11 states, and VT is not one of them.

I have one with Kennedy on it from change but never seen one in change yet with a state on it. Pretty neat idea. Next will be the movie stars.

These are fairly common novelty coins.

I have a set in a frame I got for christmas one year, of 2005 D Lincoln cents. I think it is called the "Heritage of the United States" set. Still, a neat find. Phoenix

I've got a 1975 with Paul Revere stamped into it in the same spot.
