1977-D Eisenhower Dollar Off Center?

ilikeikes Pillar of the Community United States 1205 Posts	Posted 12/08/2012 12:09 am Got a few Eisenhower dollars from a bank yesterday...this 1977-D seems to be right at the 5% threshold for ID'ing as an off center error...there IS a partial collar demarcation line, around 100% of the rim facing reverse....thousands of IKE's searched over the years, and never found a true off center coin..lots of close calls....whaddya think?..opinions welcomed. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 12/08/2012 08:37 am Not off-center, just a misaligned die. If it was off-center the rev would be off in the same direction. Instead it is nicely centered. Also on an off cent there will usually not be reeding in the area where the dies are off. And finally in order to be an off-center part of the design needs to be missing. Report this Post to the Staff

flynvfr New Member United States 25 Posts	Posted 12/22/2012 09:48 am For an off-center, would the opposing face be in the same orientation or opposite? In other words, suppose you have what appears to be a MAD on both sides, but the weak side is on opposite end of the coin (i.e. 180 degrees). Just MADs on both sides where the dies happen to be 180 degrees opposite one another? Report this Post to the Staff

pyrbob Rest in Peace United States 1943 Posts	Posted 12/22/2012 7:04 pm Also keep in mind broadstruck errors including off centered errors are a result of the collar malfunctioning. Since it is the collar that puts the reeding on the edge of the coin these errors are without full reeding. Since the above coin has a reeded edge it is not an off centered error.
