Sorry if this has been asked before. I just bought a roll of Presidential $s over the weekend, ended up with all D mint which is okay
But when looking at the markings on the edge, I noticed sometimes the marking is heads side up and other times tail side up, same year of coin too and same President
Is that normal? I would've thought they would've all been the same way
The edge lettering is done at a different point in the process than the stamping. I don't recall which is done first from what I have read.
Since the coining process is mostly automated there is no easy way to get the blanks to lie in one orientation or the other when the second process is done so they just let them land either way.
