Hello all!

Could you folks please assist me in ID'ing and/or giving insight in to any of the silver coins potentially being fakes?
I'm currently out in Afghanistan- and took a few pics of these being sold by a local Afghani vendor.

Any idea on a rough price range for the coins below (if assumed authentic) that I should pay/offer?

(Slowly adding & updating pictures.. more to come)
(Have very high detailed pictures if needed)

The ancients are modern reproductions.

maridvnnm:

When you say ancients, are you referring to all of the silver Greek coins?

That is a very interesting group of coins. Some appear to be OK, but there are some I have doubts about. Greek style coinage is not my area, but others here will be able to tell you more. The modern coins look to be OK. On a side note, try not to post double images and if you have any coins with nude images you can not post them here.

@ echizento.

I caught only 1 duplicate image after scrolling through the edit. Note to forum admin: Group Image Upload = very necessary.
Greek coin nudity is not allowed? Boy oh boy, really? In this day and age we're worried about that? Shame. However, noted.

deviantek, these are all interesting coins and we enjoy seeing them. However if you have a large group of coins like these you should start a new topic and post only a few images at a time.

The silver coins excepting the group of silver (Persian I think) look iffy. The bronze coins on the other hand look good to me.Some seem to have bronze disease (light powdery green stuff - almost florescent) This is an area out of my expertise but they seem to be appropriate to the area (ie Afghanistan). The Afghans have been famous for metal working since before Alexander the Great. People who make 'fakes' are in business to make lots of money (usually). If you stick to the bronze that has the 'old' look you probably will be okay. As long as you don't pay more than $5 each I don't think you will regret it.

Thanks for that info FVRIVS. I will try and stick with the bronze then as the silvers did look too good to be true.

@ echizento: Do you enjoy making posting in this forum as painful as possible. Multiple threads for a group of coins to which I have no specific information on? Really? Are the members here on 800x600/56k modems? I hope not in 2013!

Thanks.

I don't know much about them but I listed this one for sale the other night for $4.99 start (from my brothers collection) No bids yet but several 'watchers'

The Kushan Empire existed in this same geographic area (Kabul) and I believe you posted a photo of at least one.

It's actually tremendously more painful to follow individual conversations about 20 different coins in the same topic.

deviantek .... If the green is soft and comes off on your fingers don't buy it. The bronze disease is difficult to deal with if it has progressed to far. It is like cancer for coins. Small spots can be treated but at least one you posted is 'terminal'. It will soon be just powder. Some green on bronze is good. The darker green that has hardness. A piece can come off but it has a solid quality to it. Its like the green on old statues. It actually protects the metal

--from experience. Not to unwelcome your questions, but it's just very difficult sorting out all the conversations in one thread for this many coins.
A few (labeled) coins of the same type at least work better, because there's context to discuss and compare each one.

Just a first impression of the coins that resemble Bactrian tetradrachms--these are typically valuable coins that are often copied, and we've seen copies before picked up by people returning from Afghanistan.

I'm no expert on these coins, but compare the style and details:
