Hello...
I had this quarter for a while now .It is loosing it's silver color.Does anyone have an idea what caused it?
It doesn't look like it was caused by acid.
The coin weighs 5.53gr.
Thank you for any info

WOW---How long have you had the coin?--Is this a case of artificial meddling?

It could have been plated then if you used it as a pocket piece that's what caused it to look like that?

It looks like it was painted at onetime and then circulated for a long time and is showing wear on the high points.

Wouldn't the coin still look silver underneath the paint?
This one looks dark on the reverse and has some copper colored places on the obverse. The rim looks normal.
The weight is a bit lighter than the other 1981"s I weight.

The weight of this coin is 5.53gr.Is this still in the normal range?I seen plated coins where the paint started to peel of but underneath, the coin did look like a normal coin.

Ok...it's been a while
Im still waiting on an answer about the weight of this coin.It weighs less (5.53 gr) compared to the others of the same year that usally weigh between 5.65 and 5.70 gr.
Coulden't it be that the clad layer is just comming off? and thats why the coin weighs less?
Sorry...but I'm still bumping my head about this one ..lol
If I'm right, would that be an error?
Thanks guy's for any input

Tolerance for a CuNi clad quarter is +/-0.23 grams so your coin has a normal weight. The cladding is unaffected but the coin does appear to be suffering from some sort of environmental damage.
