Using my loop, I thought that this was just another example of MD but my new USB camera shows me otherwise. Now I will need to figure out which one it is.

Thanks for looking!

I have seen posts here that have coins that are heavily worn and they look like MD but that serif on that 2 has me thinking otherwise.

Die markers suggest that this maybe an 1972 1ยข WDDO-006, the die gouge in the E on the reverse is a dead on match.

chzman,

Your coin is exhibiting MD.

The following CCF thread is worthwhile reading for an in-depth understanding of MD vs DDO / DDR:

Here is a better explanation of what is going on with this coin, now that I know it was a master double die, it was easy to find it on Wexler's Die Varieties page and here is an excerpt:

1972 is well known for the major obverse doubled die and numerous lesser obverse doubled die varieties that were produced on the Lincoln Cent that year. What some folks may not be aware of is that a doubled master die was also produced that year for the Lincoln cents. This is an unusual case where more than one master die was produced for a denomination in a given year.

Shortly after the various obverse doubled die cent varieties were produced that year, the Lincoln Cent master die for 1972 failed and a new one had to be produced. Clearly the Mint was having problems that year with the hubbing process as was evidenced by the many doubled die varieties produced. Those problems carried over to the second master die that was produced for the Lincoln cents that year. That second master die was produced with minor doubling. It is estimated that the doubled master die was created somewhere around April or May of 1972. All of the Lincoln cents struck by working dies that descended from the doubled master die show this minor doubling.

The doubling can be seen on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, the letters of LIBERTY, and very slightly on the date. Since 60% to 70% of all Lincoln cents for 1972 show this doubling, it is far too common to have any value. This includes 1972 D-Mint, S-Mint, and proof coins produced that year.

Thanks, I have purchased some real junk over the years but this was a nice buy. They have hundreds of these on ebay going for 40-50 bucks. I got the item in 3 days. Its all metal and the example videos that can be found at the bottom of the listings, convinced me that this was going to be my new camera. The detail I can get at magnification is remarkable, considering the price of this camera. Here is a link to one of them:

I would think it would be no problem for it. I will give it a try and post it for ya on another thread, probably in the camera forum and send you the link. I will be taking some pictures of some possible RPMs and will snap a Morgan before I get into that. There is a controller attached to the cable that allows you to turn the leds on and off and also lets you press a button to take the snap shot. The focus control is great. Watch one of those demos, you will see how it works.
