Unfortunately, I don't have good news about your uncle's coin. It is not a genuine coin. It is a replica of an ancient Greek coin from the city of Gela, Sicily, that was mass-mailed out by Readers Digest to promote a book on Greek history they were selling at the time. It was originally glued to a card; the large hole on the man-headed-bull's neck was put there on these replicas to hold the blob of glue to attach it to the card. On the other side, below the charioteer, is supposed to be stamped the word "COPY" - but it sounds like only the letters "CO" on yours are visible.

We've seen literally dozens of these crop up here on the forum over the years; they must be one of the most widely distributed (and most confusion-causing) replica coin types in North America. Or, do a forum search for the word "Gela", and you'll find more than enough old threads about them.

I remember when these came out in 1986 (or thereabouts). I was just a kid but my grandparents gave one to me. I still have it somewhere. It originally came glued to a card which told what it was.
