chetzler Valued Member United States 206 Posts	Posted 06/06/2013 01:44 am I've just recently learned about "Full Strike" varieties for many US coins so I've started looking back through my collection. I came across this 1936-D Merc (sorry about the mediocre quality, camera doesn't do macros really welll), that certainly appears to have fully separated bands, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something more nuanced. I know there's not much difference in value for a full strike for this year, but it would still be neat to have and identify one. Grateful for any opinions -Chris Report this Post to the Staff

chetzler Valued Member United States 206 Posts	Posted 06/06/2013 02:04 am Ah, so it's not just the center bands? In hand under a loupe, the lower bands do look like the center ones, it just doesn't show up quite that way in the photo. Report this Post to the Staff

The center of the coin typically wears first, but all bands must be fully separated - at the top, middle, and bottom. Still a great coin, and we can't tell if it is FSB. You need a great loupe. If you see all bands fully separated under a loupe than you know what you have. Those are in expensive to acquire and as a matter of fact, if you've $50 to spend, you can grab a USB microscope cam and loupe bundle off Amazon. The scope cam will really show you what you need to see and you can snap shots of it at the same time. Report this Post to the Staff
