Many of the 43 varieties produced in 1847 have repunched dates. Sometimes it's the entire date and in other cases it may be one or more digits.

They are not characteristic of repunching in any of the 43 different N varieties in 1847. I believe the mark on the lower right of the 8 is PMD. I think I see an area of the 8 that is missing the metal that now appears right next to it. As for the mark inside the upper loop of the 8, I'm not sure.

My first thought is how would a "repunched 8" have those two marks? They don't look like they could match up to an 8. Robbudo's post above is very telling!
