Die abrasion wouldn't normally impact the lower portions of the die, at least not without showing a great deal of evidence within the fields. And even then the lowest areas tend to remain untouched. I see no indication of die abrasion.
The coin shows the reverse die was very very worn, there's some Progressive Indirect Design Transfer. There may have been some grease on the die or just some other weakness opposite Jefferson's portrait specifically. I have only seen two of these OMMs in person, and neither were a later die state so I am not sure how common this would be. It certainly wouldn't be worth more money if a significant variety had an error. Varieties and errors don't mix any better than errors on key dates.
