For many years I have been collecting Bank of England silver-plated dollar counterfeits. My motivation is understandable: I am a local historian and a fellow by the name of William Booth, executed in 1812 for forging BoE banknotes, engaged in his illegal activities less than a mile from where I live. He also counterfeited all denominations of BoE tokens and was without a doubt the most prolific forger of the Regency Era. Some of these coins were found on his premises in Victorian times and are now in a local museum. I have photographed these coins and have actively been buying examples which fit their profile. I now have 30 examples of Booth's dollars and have approached the materials science department of a university. They are interested in setting up a detailed scientific analysis (SEM-EDS and other techniques). It will be a ground-breaking study and should hopefully reveal much about Booth's production methods.
I would be very grateful if those of you with plated BoE dollar counterfeits could let me have good scans of your coins to add to the growing database of images I have now accumulated. I am also interested in buying more examples if you have any for sale. Thank you in advance for your assistance! I

Bear with me. I am hoping this study will result in a book and I am somewhat reluctant to post images of verified Booth coins ahead of publication. However, to show the superb quality of Booth's coins I have posted an image of the olive branch held by Britannia which is found on the reverse of BoE dollars. The left hand of the composite is a genuine dollar, the right a Booth forgery. The area concerned is no more than 5 x 4 mm and illustrates the consummate skill of the diesinker. Incidentally, you will never be taken in by a Booth forgery - every example I have seen has a copper show, quite apart apart from being underweight!

Looks like Booth was one of those forgers whose pride of purpose eclipsed his deceptiveness. His forgery clearly shows he was trying to improve on the original!
