Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and I thought to show the few coins I have bought from ebay few years ago. I am a militaria collector so I am completely novice when it comes to coins. I would like to get your opinions on this one. It's very small and light, made of Gold and has Byzantine emperor Heraclius with his 2 sons on the obverse. Thanks in advance.   |

Hello and thanks for your reply. What I have marked is the mint mark? Different from my coin. The price on the link you have provided is very good. I have paid much much more for this one.  |

 to the community Very nice coin. You have to be careful when buying this coin type though especially from e-Bay. There are a lot of fakes of this type along with piece that have been made in recent years for jewelry. This coin appears to be OK though. |

Go to acsearch and enter Heraclius solidus into the search engine. Scroll down, you might find an exact match. I don't know the significance of the sympols.

Great news Echizento. Thanks for the welcoming as well :) I know how dangerous ebay is, so I had bought David R. Sear's book "Byzantine coins and their value" and used it as reference. Just to be 100% safe I searched for coin collectors forums in google, I found this one and thought to confirm with you guys. Cheers |

The mintmark is the CONOB in the bottom. It's the same on both coins.
I suspect the differing sign is either the officina mark or the year.

The character that looks like a S is the Officinae. Your coin is Sear #761.

Sear's book has a nice chapter on Fake "Byzantine coins", some of which were made in the Lebanon, and some of their "products" have found their way to Cyprus.

Thanks for the input guys. Hi Masis, actually I got this from ebay. I think the seller was Ilya Zlobin. I had googled him and found that it's a bit contoversial weather he is selling legit stuff or not. |

Oh, the "World Renowned" coin dealer, who has "attributed over 30,000" coins. The sublime paradox of his ebay account name as "highrating_lowprice" when, if we are fortune to have our senses, will know that the two word prefixes need to be swapped around to give a truer sense of reality. |
