Is this a planchet error? Note that the coin is in bad shape from something - likely environmental damage or possibly chemical. There is a big chunk of material missing (i.e. the planchet is thin) in the area from the left of "In" that goes down to and through "Liberty". On the back there appears to be something "extra" from the left wheat stalk towards the "C" in cent. Have provided a side view as well so you can see the missing material. My thoughts are badly worn defective planchet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
The rough pitted surfaces are indicative of severe environmental damage. Even if the planchet were defective, it would be almost impossible to attribute due to the ED.
