Hi, I brought a 1921 quarter to a local coin show where there was an ICG grader. He made a comment that he was unsure about its authenticity. Well it came back not slabbed and in a flip with the "no decision" highlighted. It did come back with a coin identification # and when I put this into the ICG search database came up with a grade of VF-120-DTLS, does anyone know what this means?

thanks for your help

DTLS is shorthand for "Details". VF-120 DTLS means the coin is genuine but has some impairment like scratches, cleaning, polishing etc. It can't be given a real numismatic grade, but it has Very Fine 20 Details. A "1" is put in front of the "20" making it "120" so there is no confusion with a real VF-20 grade.

Not sure why ICG didn't encapsulate it.... maybe they don't certify problem coins. Or, maybe they had second thoughts as to it being genuine.
