Maybe it is...

I found this old article from 1997 tonight.

Interesting to say the least.

Coin collecting is not an addiction with me; more of a way of life, it has been part of who I am for nearly 50 years.

Much more important to me these days, is not the coins themselves but the knowledge gained from them, which extends far beyond the bounds of numismatics.
THAT cannot be stolen from me.

I started shaking, I knew the withdrawal symptoms were coming on. I'm new to collecting you see, it all started with a coin. I found myself unable to sleep, and 'counting coins' to get to sleep. My expectations grew and grew, there was coin or a few that I wanted to possess. My funds weren't going to let me have it, so I decided to sell a kidney. With much luck I got the coins, albeit with the loss of a kidney.

I'm joking of course, but as a new collector I've have definitely been drawn by the claws of collecting. I love it, and feel it is a positive form of an addiction. There many negative ones that I care not to mention, but you can guess. With collecting you can learn a vast amount about history, research/identification techniques and so much more. I'm new and have a myriad of 'stuff' to learn in the present and future, I feel that this learning will never cease to end which is good-because my brain never wants to stop learning.

Great post westcoin, we are the masters of our coins fate :).
Rest in Peace

Creepy, but interesting. I guess some of the keys to coin collecting (as well as other things in life) is to know your limits, have a plan and learn to recognize any compulsion issues that come up.

Welcome David to Coin Collectors Anonymous(CCA), thank-you for joining CCA. I/We applaud you *clap clap*(sound of one person clapping). I became a member after an intervention, my family found me in the morning with a brown paper bag with coins in it. They decided imperative action was needed to halt my preternatural want for coinage.

Well, I pretty much already knew that, but thank you for posting it anyway.

Not really. I've been collecting coins for well over 60 years and can stop any time I want. I can. I can. I can. Maybe.

So many coins, so little funds. So many books, not enough shelf space.

Coins. The new crack. Look for it in a ghetto near you.

I definitely feel like I'm getting a fix when I find a long sought after coin for a good price. Yes, anything can be done to excess and become a problematic addiction. Even coins if you spending money on them when you should be buying diapers and baby formula for example.

I've been trying to distract myself into a new addiction. Hopefully springtime will get me out of the house and away from my computer

Collectors are not satisfied until their assembly is complete.

I'm satisfied with my collection, and its far from completion!
