One of the banks I stopped at today gave me these, the teller said a woman had deposited them earlier in the day. The wrappers are a little worn, the top one especially, but the ends don't look tampered with and someone wrote a name and phone number on them. Is it worth it to keep these in one piece?

These are mint rolls, but they sure are rough. Normally they get a premium, but in this shape, I'm not sure. I'd hang on to them anyway. Coins inside are probably nice. Maybe there's a pattern coin hiding in there!

I would certainly keep the nicer one as is. Both the same mint I take it?

It's pretty impressive that they've managed to stay unopened for so long, but in this condition I don't think they'd be worth much over face value. If memory serves, something like 750,000,000 of these were made, and many of them never reached circulation. I wouldn't expect to get much more than $30-35 each if you took it to ebay.

It's your choice if you want to pop them open and have a look. Your odds of finding a Cheerios dollar (1999 reverse pattern) are negligible--all known Cheerios dollars have come from Cheerios packaging. That said, I think there still may be a few Sac/Quarter mules out there, so I'd certainly open them before spending them.

All but one, which was found in a bank wrapped roll and which almost certainly originally came from a Cheerios box. I think you would be much more likely to find one in a bank wrapped roll than in one of those rolls.

I've been thinking more along the lines of whether or not I'd find an uncirculated 'wounded eagle' in these, I'm in no rush to open them though as finding these was a thrill in itself.
