Yeah, looks fishy, but what can we do about it?

If it was a multiple strike, the images would not be reversed or incused, correct?

Wow I feel BAAAD for the guy that paid $946 for that. That is obviously NOT a mint error or die variety of any kind. Thats just sad that someone would scam a person out of almost a thousand bucks with a coin worth 1 dollar... :(

Sigh he even used "Collectible-US-Coins does not claim or guarantee the authenticity of any raw ungraded coins condition or mint error we sell unless stated otherwise. We do our best to evaluate any raw uncertified coins we accquire however, any questionable mint errors or grades are subject to the opinion & risk of the buyer looking to purchase the coin or coins listed. This is why we do our best to show you the best possible pictures of the coins we offer. AND All Sales are Final unless stated otherwise." to protect himself in his mind. Hope whoever bought it used paypal and realizes its a scam so they can get their money back.

that is too sad. I tried to email the buyer but half way through it the page decided it didn't want to play no more lol. I sure hope he used paypal or a credit card to buy it. he has almost 200 feedback's and still didn't see that it is a scam squeeze job.
wow now I feel bad for the guy. he should have been smarter than that OR is he doing it to get rid of the guy selling it. "I can only hope"
good luck all

The reverse lettering of the coin could easily be attributed to another coin being pressed onto this one. The only problem is the liberty, three of the imprints have the edge of the coin inprinted onto them, the last one does not.
Whether this is possible when the coin is not being minted I have no idea!

Wouldn´t touch it with a barge pole!

The coin in the linked auction could not possibly have happened at the mint. The host coin is fully struck, even in the overstruck areas. The overstruck area show reverse images from another coin ON BOTH SIDES of the host coin. This means that the host had to be sandwiched between two already struck coins, on both the left and right sides of the coin. Now assuming this somehow happened in the coin press and the striking of the die was what impressed the images into the coin, the whole assembly would have bent down into the coining chamber below it unless there was yet another piece, a planchet in the chamber below it. This means we would somehow have to get all six of these pieces together in this order in the press during the .03 seconds the dies are fully apart. Now for the final miracle. Since the dollars are struck horizontally and not vertically, these five already struck coins have to get into that position WHILE HANGING IN MID-AIR.

If these did happen at the mint, I think we need to check on the divinity of the press operator. A Saint only has to perform three miracles. From that ebay sellers offerings, that pressman has accomplished more miracles than appear in the entire Old Testament.
