Hello,
Long story short- I have an 1888 Morgan silver dollar and I don't know much... We'll... ANYTHING really about coins, values, or selling coins.

The major questions:
If I can make some money off of this coin, how much could I get for it?

Do I need to do anything special to the coin, have it appraised (if so by whom/ how), or should I just hold on to it and wait for the value to go up before researching about how to sell it?

I am uploading pictures of the coin and would appreciate any and all feedback about how to proceed at this point.

Thank you :)
-Nina

I apologize for the low picture quality :( I should use a better camera to post clearer pictures--- tomorrow, to bed for now, it's 2:30 am EST! Wow I got pretty distracted browsing through this site and posted forums similar to my current situation. Still really don't know much about mint, grade, and typical pricing.

I look forward to learning more tomorrow, sweet dreams coin community :)

to CCF Nina.

1888 is a common date Morgan dollar. With that said, we would need better photos to offer an accurate grade opinion and value.

Rule #1 is do not clean it.

First off, welcome.

I agree that it's a "common" Morgan, and your photos, although blurry, indicate that it's not at the epex of the condition scale - eye appeal is lacking, but you shouldn't try to fix that, either, you'll only reduce its value further. I concur that it's a $25 to $30 (retail) coin at best, with a dealer likely to offer you just its value as bullion ($15-16 currently).
