1984 Silver Nickel? - Coin Community Forum

Bob Levi Valued Member Canada 488 Posts	Posted 11/18/2014 11:24 pm Was going through a few nickels I have and this jumped at me with a frosty silver like shine. The lighting in my picture makes it look gold but it really looks silver (sorry, didn't want to wait till daylight to find out). I put the magnet to it and it didn't stick. Just wanted to know if these were common or did it maybe make its way from a set? Report this Post to the Staff

However, I can tell you that it could possibly be oxidization with the nickel and another substance. Report this Post to the Staff

Altaira Pillar of the Community Canada 2517 Posts	Posted 11/18/2014 11:52 pm Cupro-nickel tones sometimes tone like old worn but still white silver colour. Canadian nickels made from 1982 to 1999 and some of 2000, 2001 and 2006 are made out of cupro-nickel, the same alloy as the US nickels. It is not magnetic.
