Was going through a few nickels I have and this jumped at me with a frosty silver like shine. The lighting in my picture makes it look gold but it really looks silver (sorry, didn't want to wait till daylight to find out). I put the magnet to it and it didn't stick. Just wanted to know if these were common or did it maybe make its way from a set?

No I really doubt that it has anything to do with silver, neither silver coated/plated or even cored. However, I can tell you that it could possibly be oxidization with the nickel and another substance.

Ok. Shouldn't it be magnetic though?

Cupro-nickel tones sometimes tone like old worn but still white silver colour. Canadian nickels made from 1982 to 1999 and some of 2000, 2001 and 2006 are made out of cupro-nickel, the same alloy as the US nickels. It is not magnetic.

no it is not magnetic, well I don't know if yours is or not, but it should not stick to a magnet.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I was trying to read up on it but thought I'd ask while searching. Another lesson learned.
