Hi everyone!

I'm just curious as to see how everyone here is collecting the Presidential dollars or if you even collect them at all.

I understand that they won't be worth much as an investment but are still a nice thing to have.

Are you collecting them in MS or PR/PF or Both? And do you recommend buying them graded, or just from the Mint Proof set.

Also, is it true that they will remove the edge lettering in 2008? What will this do to the 4 coins with edge lettering?

Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just an eager learner!! :)

Thankyou,
Ben

I just take one or two of the nicest, shiniest examples I get from circulation. Or, failing that method, I buy a roll from the bank, find the two or three nicest examples from the roll, and have fun watching people's faces when I spend the rest of them.

I'm grabbing P, D and S and putting them into a 8184 Dansco album. I just like collecting, and this set will be very easy to complete.

Edit: And no one yet knows if lettering will be moved from the edge to faces, but I kinda doubt it. The House jumped and passed the bill, but it's unlikely the Senate will pass it, especially with the problems pretty much taken care of by now...

I am saving 20 coin tubes of P & D. I am getting the S mint coins in the full proof sets that I dismantle for albums so I have those also. I am not saving the rolls as an investment per se. I plan to start assembling albums and keep a few nice ones for myself. At some point I will start selling the albums and maybe make a few bucks. The bottom line is that I just can't stop hoarding coins!

I have been putting together a set of P and D mint dollars. I plan on getting the 4 coin proof set from the mint. As for rolls, I am saving one P mint roll from each president. If I get bored with the series, I won't feel too guilty about opening up the rolls and spending them.

I cannot believe how badly these tarnish though. I got some and handled them ONLY by the edge, but even that minor contact resulted in discoloration after only 3 months. No more raw handling, even by the edges.

I go get 2 rolls from my bank, put 1 coin in my book and spend the rest of that roll, then put the other roll away.

I am saving 5 coins from P & D and putting into 2x2's for now but will eventually move to albums. One set for myself and one for each of my kids, who I am trying to get involved with coins.
Rest in Peace

I get PD and S, and put them in Dansco Albums, one for me and one for my wife.

I also have picked up a roll of each, Denver mint, but I'm not sure why.

I'm doing like Becky - get two rolls, keep one, crack the other, pick the best and spend the rest. I've noticed on ones I set aside to spend later that the finish gets tarnished/pinholes very fast. I handled them very little and on the edges the "golden finish" is almost gone. The ones I put in airtites are fine, however.

Guess I'm a minority. I don't collect them, don't like them and don't want anything to do with them. At banks I'm asked if I want any and I just say not those things. Same with the first wive coins. Just don't see a future in collecting something that every one is hoarding.

I have yet to see one in person. They don't circulate around here and I'm not putting any special effort to get one since I don't like them and won't collect them.
