Whew, it's been a while since I've been here, but I'm glad we finally beat 1491! I have a dated 1475 when/if the time comes. I'm not sure if I've posted it before on CCF. On that note, does anyone with a copy of Levinson know the rarity of a 1475 Saxon spitzgroschen?

Levinson lists 4 spitzgroschen from Saxony for 1475:
I-140 (Colditz) R
I-145 (Freiberg) C
I-148 (Leipzig) C

We have been waiting 297 days (since 7/3/17) for 1487. We waited 471 days (3/10/16 to 6/23/17) for the 1491. On 17 October 2018 the 1487 will be the new 1491.  |

According to numista, this coin can be dated by the silver content. I'm not sure how true that is, though. |

There are plenty of dated coin types from 1487 if we don't limit ourselves to European coins. I actually posted one coin that was very possibly supposed to be dated (the equivalent of) 1487 but the date just happened to be off flan (so we don't know if it was really 1488 or even 1489).
I'm actually still looking for 15th century dated Islamic coins; hopefully I'll eventually stumble on one that comes out to 1487 (or, for that matter, to 1486, which, I believe, we are also missing).
Sadly, my earliest dated coins will almost certainly never be reached by this thread, even if we end up allowing non-owned examples; the 5th century AD is mostly full of gaps, with hardly any known dated coins at all (and for all I know there might well be some smaller gaps of that kind even closer to the present).

Just to be clear, we can accept any coin from anywhere as long as the common era date can be determined. |
